 What Schools Say About Funda:

RIBS is thankful for all FUNDA FEST school participants for inviting tellers to share their stories with their student bodies year after year, in support of our mission of promoting the awareness, appreciation, and application of Black Storytelling in Rhode Island through performance, educational, and cultural experiences.

Here are a few reflections of FUNDA FEST K-12 school performances:

: "Rochel Coleman did a great job! He was very good with kids! " Wilbur-McMahon

"Christylez was fabulous! He performed for our middle school students and did a great job of engaging the crowd and making all feel very comfortable. He is a nice, calm, gently talented man. We would love to have him return. Thank You!" St. Michaels Country Day'

Deb Asante performed for our grades 1-4. She was fabulous. She spoke to the children at their level, and was entertaining and very pleasant. The faculty raved about her after she left. Thank You!" St. Michaels Country Day

"Carolyn does an outstanding job of matching the schools needs with the appropriate performer. She makes sure that each year's program is new and of a high caliber. Over the years we have never been disappointed. Carolyn is a pleasure to work with." Rocky Hill

"I have requested Teju for several years now. The entire staff and the children love seeing him. The kids even remember the stories he has told in previous years. Although I am retiring this year, I hope my successor opts to have a RIBS teller come next year." Rhodes

"As always we love to have Valerie Tutson come to our school. She is excellent!!" UCAP

"Christylez Bacon's performance was just super! The students were just so intrigued and excited that a Grammy nominee was performing at their school. Whether the students were 9th or 12th graders, the overall feeling were that this was the best assembly that they had attended and the teachers agreed. Chris kept the students totally engaged with his hip hop style of music, plus his human beat box skills. The highlight of the show was his freestyle rapping skills of rhyming words called from the students in the crowd that he put into a rap song on the spot." Mt Hope High School.

"This is my last year at this school and I will be sure to recommend this program to our middle school PTO! For the past 6 years at Horgan we have been VERY pleased with all of the performers that have been at our school. Keep up the wonderful work." Horgan Elementary

"As always Len Cabral's performance was wonderful. He is very good at judging how long the students are able to focus and attend."-International Charter School

"Fabulous presentation! We will participate each year." Clayville
"The children enjoyed the storytellers. It reinforces the importance of stories, writing, reading etc. It was a great experience. The students were especially touched by Valerie Tutson's Haitian folktale. It was timely considering the earthquake in Haiti had just taken place." MLK Elementary

"Chris was a polite, humble, incredibly talented young artist. The children and faculty loved it!" Eldredge

"Teju did a terrific job tying his stories to our curriculum on a few moments notice! Thanks! Broad Rock Middle School

"Thanks so much to Carolyn For organizing our program a wonderful performer as Christylez!!" Hanaford

"We want to have a storyteller next year! We love it!!!" Highlander Charter School

"Everything Chris did was superb. The students and the staff were enthralled by Chris and in the past we had Len Cabral come and grace us with his presence as well. You could hear a pin drop during the performances, except when everyone was laughing. The students were respectful and engaging when asking questions. They were inspired and for our students that speaks volumes. Having Chris here has inspired staff and some students to try and form a music elective as many students would like to learn more about playing music and writing raps. Many students hung around after the performance to speak to Chris and thank him personally." Ocean Tides

"The historical story that Deborah Asante told was perfect for middle school age children. She had them enrapt. Her use of music was great. Thank you for making this possible for us!" Meadow Brook Waldorf

"Great performance highly entertaining!!!" Hopkins Hill
